The Legendary God of Kamrunag Temple

The story of the Kamrunag temple dates back to the Mahabharata epic. A brave boy named Barbrik was preparing himself for the Mahabharat yudh. When the invitation was given to all except Barbrik, he became sad. Afterward, he resolved and told his mother that he would fight in the war. But he would fight on the side that would be losing. He started his journey towards the battlefield. And there on the battlefield, Shri Krishna knew all that. Krishna knew the infinite powers of Barbrik. He also knew about the result of the war, that is, the victory of the Pandavas and the defeat of the Kauravas.

And if Barbrik fought on the opposite side, then the results would not be good. So, he dressed himself up as a Brahman and reached Barbrik. Shri Krishna tested him with a task. He gave the task to Barbrik to make a hole in all the leaves of a tree. Afterward, Barbrik passed the task, and Shri Krishna asked, “Who do you worship?”. Barbrik replied, “Vishnu”. Therefore, Krishna took his Vishnu roop and asked for ‘gurudakshina’ from Barbrik. As gurudakshina, Krishna asked for his head, and he agreed.

But, here he made a condition. He wanted to witness the war of the Mahabharata.

As a result, Krishna was impressed by his loyalty. He made him a guardian deity of Kamrunag. Also, Barbrik became immortal.
