Who is Babita Phogat 

Today we will talk about an Indian female wrestler (Babita Phogat) who has made her own identity in wrestling, on which we are all very proud. Babita Phogat was born on 20 November 1989 in the Bhavani district of Haryana.

At the age of 6, Babita used to practice wrestling with her brother and sister. The superhit film Dangal is made on Phogats sisters. She has completed her college studies at MDU College, Rohtak. 

She was very sad to see discrimination between the boys and girl’s in the village and her father believed that girls are not less than boys. Her father was also a coach and he has been a famous wrestler of his time. She is one of the most successful wrestlers in Indian history. 

Babita Phogat Family

Family of 6 sisters – 2 are cousin sisters, 4 are real sisters. Her father’s name is Mahavir Singh Phogat. He is also a wrestler and starts working as a wrestler in Balali village in the Bhiwani district of Haryana. Babita Phogat’s mother’s name is Shobha Kaur. She is a housewife, taking good care of her daughters.

Geeta Phogat is a wrestler who won the gold medal in the Indian Commonwealth Games for the first time. She is the first Indian wrestler to win the Olympics.

Babita Phogat embellishes the third and last entry in India of the 2016 Summer Women’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She portrayed India with his cousin Vinesh Phogat. She adapted for Rio Games after her adversary failed a doping test in a qualifying tournament and allocation was granted to India.

She joined the (BJP) Bhartiya Janata Party in August 2019 throughoutshe was heavily influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

2009 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship

 In a competition held in Jalandhar, Punjab, Babita won a gold medal in the women’s freight category in the 51 kg category.

2010 Commonwealth Games

 She wins silver medal in 2010 commonwealth games.

2012 World Wrestling Championships

 In the 16th round of the 2012 World Wrestling Championship, Babita faced Hsien-Ju Chiu of Taipei.

2013 Asian Wrestling Championships

 At the 2013 Asia Wrestling Championship in New Delhi, India, Babita won a bronze medal in the 55 kg free women’s category with North Korea’s Han Kum. 

2014 Commonwealth Games

 In the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Babita beat Kathryn Marsh of Scotland in a quarter-finale.

2014 Asian Games

 Babita was unable to repeat her Commonwealth Games match at the 2014 Asia Games in Incheon, South Korea. In the 16th round of the women’s 55 kg free category, she faced Mongolia’s Srey Mao Dorn and beat her.

2015 Asian Wrestling Championships

 Babita failed to make it to the finals as she lost to her arch-rivals and North Korea’s Pak Yong-Mi, who lost five seconds ago.

2016 Rio Olympics

 Babita became the third and last entry in India of the 2016 Summer Women’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

 Babita Phogat won a silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
